The rate of STD infection has been increasing over the years in Bernardino County. According to a 2016 research, there are more than 15, 000 new infections each year in the county. Â The most prevalent types of STDs are Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis and Gonorrhea. The county ranked 16th in Chlamydia infections and ranked 25th in Gonorrhea infections. There has also been resurgent cases of congenital syphilis in 2016 in the county. There were more than 4 cases reported. From 2010 to 2016 there has been a 192% increase in Gonorrhea cases.

The youth between the age of 15-24 years formed 60% out of the total number of the infected persons in the county. Chlamydia had the most number of infections in Chino city, females dominating the number of infections.
HIV/AIDs reported cases have been consistent over the years recoding 190 cases in 2011 and the same number in 2014. The African Americans are more vulnerable to STDs according to the CDC report of 2016. The report showed that, the black community had the most number of infections in all types of STDs in Chino city.
Men who have sex with other men recorded higher rates of Gonorrhea and syphilis infections. The Hispanic community was largely hit by Chlamydia infections with a staggering 31% of the total infections. In 2016 the county recorded 20 cases of congenital syphilis. This rate of increase in congenital syphilis has been daunting considering the type of damage it causes.

With the alarming number of new STD infections in Chino hills and considering the upsurging population in the city of more than 80, 000 people, the county Department of Health working together with the State’s Department of Health have established programs to offer sex education to the population.
With an esteemed support from parents board and non governmental bodies, most schools are pushing for the introduction of comprehensive sexual education into their curriculum. Since the early 1990s, schools only taught abstinence only as the only means of preventing unwanted pregnancies, HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
