The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin is where you will find the ARCW Medical Center. This is the state’s largest HIV health care system. Since they first opened, they have helped more than 3,300 HIV patients with their not only medical needs, but also dental, and mental health needs. At the ARCW Medical Clinic, they help every HIV positive person gain access to HIV treatment so they can live a healthy life.

The closest private lab is over 40 miles away, and most can’t make the trip. Residents of Dane County, with proof, can head to Access Community Health Center Incorporated. Anyone with insurance problems is welcome at Planned Parenthood. You’ll also find them on S. Park St. Even if you can’t come up with the nominal fee, you can still get checked. They’re also located on Orin Rd if this is closer.
Women often find the Care Net Pregnancy Center a comfortable public facility. They do not have emergency services, if there is a grave concern with you or your baby contact a hospital. STD tests are free, and so is treatment.
Multiple public facilities check their clients for HIV, some without asking for payment. Rapid HIV exam results are available, though not all clinics have labs capable of running the test. There are advantages to it over a conventional one but isn’t always necessary. Use your judgement when making this decision.
HIV blood tests, rapid and conventional are done every day at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics. The staff can communicate in over 20 languages that include sign interpretation. They work with the Ryan White Foundation and participate in clinical trails that are looking for a cure. Contact first if you want to be seen, but anyone can come in for information.
The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin test and treat HIV and its victims. New patients are being accepted, it won’t take long to fill out the papers. This will put you in their system, which some are not comfortable with. Since it is an “AIDS center” you will not be able to be very discreet. There is one reason why you are there.
Access Community Health Center at Washington Ave., has rapid HIV testing for patients only. If you’re already one, take them up on this lifesaving service.
Trying to replace the help from private labs is the Public Health Madison and Dane County office. Anyone over 14 years qualifies for HIV testing. Fees are based on insurance and clients’ available income. Those living outside of the county will be assessed a set cost.
Only abstinence will be found taught in the class. Bills are being introduced, but a dramatic change will be slow.

The student health center on campus holds classes during the school year. Students are welcome and encourage to attend, especially those who missed out on these types of programs in high school. Literature is free, and so are condoms. You can also get contraceptives and brochures at most other healthcare facilities. If it’s not out in the open, ask the receptionist.
You don’t have to be at a loss if asked how your sexual health is. Clinics are there to help. Students can go to the university center, and maybe even learn something extra when they’re there. Residents can visit a health center, and if everyone did this STDs would be on their way out in Madison. The Olbrich Gardens and the Zoo can wait, but your health should never be put on hold.
