Wayne County reported having 14,889 new cases, which is one of the highest numbers of cases in the country. The gender demographic most impacted are females, making up 42% of the cases reported. The greatest age demographic impacted are those aged 20-24 years of age. The ethnic demographic most impacted were Black, non-Hispanics.
Syphilis rates have fluctuated greatly. In 2001, they were at an all-time high with as many as 60 cases being reported in Wayne County. Then the county saw a decrease until 2006 when numbers began to climb again. Numbers continue to climb, though not as quickly as they have done in the past. Males are more likely than females to become infected. Those aged 20-24 years of age are also most likely to become infected. The ethnic demographic most impacted were Black, non-Hispanics.
Wayne County has also seen fluctuating rates when it comes to Gonorrhea cases. In 2011 the rate was 413 cases per 100,000 individuals. This was a decrease from 2008 when the number of cases was 1,166. Females are more impacted than males when it comes to the number of cases reported.
