What are the STI test options in Cleveland Heights,OH?

Cleveland Heights shares Clevelandโ€™s STD problems to some extentโ€”and Cleveland is the 38th most sexually diseased city in the US, though the HIV diagnosis rate fell between 2012 and 2017.

In 2017, the diagnosis rate of HIV in Cuyahoga County was 395 per 100K people. About half of Ohioโ€™s HIV diagnoses were for people between 20 and 24 years old. Also in 2017, there were 11,054 chlamydia cases in Cuyahoga County, at a rate of 884.8 per 100K people.

The gonorrhea rate was 408.5 and the syphilis rate was 29.8.

There was one case of congenital syphilis. Health officials say that many women cannot afford prenatal care and decline the STD screening before labor. But syphilis is easily treated with antibiotics if caught early.

Most of the STD-testing clinics in the area are in Cleveland, but there are some close to Cleveland Heights. There is at least one mobile clinic that provides free STD testing during sporadic outreach events. There are two Planned Parenthoods in Cleveland, and the one closest to you is located on Euclid Ave. They test for all STIs and treat all of them except HIV on a sliding fee scale.

Circle Health Services is further east on Euclid, and they provide rapid HIV testing with the option of anonymity. Care Alliance Health Center on Central Ave provides rapid HIV testing on a walk-in basis.

Your trusted source for comprehensive and unbiased STD testing locations, statistics, and resources. Backed by board-certified physicians and aligned with CDC guidelines, we're committed to providing accurate, up-to-date information to empower your health choices.

What STD tests do I need?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention1 (CDC) recommends screening for the most common STDs, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis, herpes 1, herpes 2, and HIV for both men and women. In addition, the CDC suggests women get screened for trichomoniasis.

SaferSTD recommends searching for locations that offer a 10-test panel which tests for the most common bacteria and viral STDs in the U.S. with additional premium add-ons like early HIV detection, if needed.

When should I get tested?

The CDC2ย provides detailed STD testing information as to when you should get tested. In summary, you should get tested today if you are sexually active, never been tested before, have had unprotected sex in the past, or if you exhibit symptoms.ย

According to the World Health Organization3, the majority of STI cases reported every day, more than one million, are asymptomatic; another reason to get tested today.

You should get tested again in 90 days to rule out STDs that have specific exposure waiting times, including HIV.

How are STD tests done?

STD testing can be a quick and simple process, depending on the type of test you choose and where you get tested. Some may require an oral or genital swab, a urine test or blood sample, or a physical exam to check your genital area for signs of an STD.

SaferSTD has identified preferred providers that require only a urine test, a blood sample, or both without a physical exam.

How fast do I get my results?

The speed at which you receive your STD testing results depends on where you get tested. Before you choose your location, find out how long testing results will take.ย

At-home STD testing results are usually 3-5 business days, depending on the manufacturer of your test. You also need to take into account the amount of time it takes to receive the test or pick one up, perform the test, and ship it back, before the lab can analyze your results and report back to you.ย

If you test at a public facility such as a neighborhood clinic, you may have to wait a week, if not more for the results, which could delay treatment. If you test through a private facility, they have the fastest turnaround within 1-3 business days.ย

SaferSTD has researched and identified the most accredited and most reputable testing locations. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

What same-day testing locations are available in Cleveland Heights, OH?

Some STD testing clinics offer same-day walk-in options without an appointment. Below are nearby preferred locations that offer this option.

How much will STD testing cost in Cleveland Heights, OH?

The cost of STD testing depends on whether you select private, public, or at-home testing, as well as the type of test(s) you need.

Several at-home STD options and public testing locations can cost up to $250, with most on the higher end, depending on the brand and type of testing. Public testing fees also vary based on income and welfare eligibility.ย

With private testing, you may save money on a low-cost comprehensive 10-test panel that tests for the most common bacterial and viral STDs in the United States.ย

SaferSTD has researched and identified reputable locations that offer upfront pricing without hidden fees. Click here to find a preferred location near you.

This program is designed to educate and motivate teenagers aged 14 to 19 year about safer sexual behaviors. Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Demographics in Cleveland Heights, OH

Demographics play a role in STD rates in your area. Letโ€™s look at a recent example with chlamydia case demographics in Cuyahoga County. Throughout the county 39 of all Chlamydia cases were to teens age 15 to 19 year. The rate is 4,505 cases per 100,000, a 5.7% decrease in rates since 2011 levels.

This is the first time since 2002 that this percentage dipped below 40%. A rate of 4,505 cases per 100,000 can be interpreted 4.5% of Cuyahoga County teens age 15 to 19 as having a chlamydial infection.

This ignores repeat infections. In other words, one in every 22 teens age 15 to 19 in Cuyahoga County reported a case of chlamydia. ย

In the age 20 to 24 age demographic we see a similar observation. With this demographic 36 percent of Chlamydia cases were reported among youth age 20 to 24 years, at a rate of 4,768 cases per 100,000 persons in this age group.

Overall, 71 percent of reported cases were among females. Concerning race and ethnicity demographics about two thirds (63%) of reported chlamydia cases in Cuyahoga County were Black/African American. The rate is 1742 per 100,000. This is five times greater than that observed for Hispanic cases at 331 per 100,000. It is ten times greater than that observed for white/non-Hispanic at 170 per 100,000.

Over half at 58% of all Chlamydia cases were attributed to Cleveland residents. This is based on their residence at the time of diagnosis.

A recent report shows that the proportion of cases attributed to Cleveland is getting lower. It was recently the lowest level reported in over twenty years. There is an increasing trend of chlamydia cases reported in Cuyahoga county outside of Cleveland proper. The racial makeup of the city according to a recent census was 43 percent White, 52 percent African American, and 1.6 percent Hispanic or Latino.
