County and state department health officials reported 76 cases of HIV, 2 cases of Hepatitis C, 8 cases of Hepatitis B, 21 cases of Hepatitis A, 67 cases of syphilis, 8,197 cases of chlamydia, and 2,156 cases of gonorrhea in 2016.
Lancaster County reported that in 2015 there were 44 people living with HIV out of every 100,000 residents.
There are no laws requiring disclosure of STD status to intended sexual partners, so it’s important to be careful, smart, and have open discussions with partners. Researchers at the Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department traced back four cases of HIV infection to one man who offered the same excuse of a broken condom each time.

The People's City Mission (PCM) provides a number of services to residents that are without insurance. They are staffed by retired physicians and other medical personnel that volunteer their time, without the expectation of being paid.
PCM does not have a lab so test results must be sent out. This can mean that you have to wait several days before learning your health status.
Family Health Services primary focus is ensuring the reproductive health of men and women. Their staff understands that privacy is important to their clients, and will not share personal information without the patient's permission.

NUIHC works to improve the health of the local native American population. While some might think that they would feel out of place here, nothing is further from the truth.

Sometimes finding a place that is close by and affordable can seem like more trouble than it’s really worth. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are public and private options, along with the possibility of finding a mobile test center visiting your neighborhood.
Lincoln Lancaster County Health Department can test you for most sexually transmitted diseases, though clinic hours differ from the health center. Non appointments are only seen on Thursdays, otherwise you must let them know you are coming. There is also a “express clinic” with slightly longer hours, though the latest their open is till 3:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Nebraska Urban Indian Health Coalition is over on Fairfield St. Close to N. 25th Street for those familiar with the area. Various community events are held geared to bring about sexual health awareness. There are programs for Native Americans only, but STD screenings are a service that is supplied for everyone. Insurance is widely accepted, and fees can be all or partially waived.
If you want to visit Planned Parenthood, go over to South 48th Street. Their large building is hard to miss. You also won’t have problems trying to park if you decide to drive. Don’t just show up, you want to have an appointment. STI testing is not the only service they provide, and their schedules are packed throughout the week. They might not turn you away if you appear unannounced, but your chances for seeing a medical professional are slim to nil.
The Lincoln South Health Center, S.48th St., tests and diagnoses HIV. It’s in the same Planned Parenthood office that did your STI test. The same policies apply so call before deciding to go. NUIHC and the Lincoln – Lancaster Health Department have conventional testing for HIV, sometimes without fees or a need for insurance.
Do you need a rapid HIV test? Peoples City Medical Clinic on North 2nd Street will see you at least once. After that it will depend on your financial status. If you have full insurance or earn too much, you won’t be allowed to return for a second visit.
If you are 13 or older the Nebraska AIDS Project will see you. There are no restrictions, other than minimum age. They can also vaccinate you against two types of Hepatitis. The only real downfall is that they do not have a lab capable of producing rapid test results, only conventional ones. Anyone in need of faster results should look into private free testing.
Family Health Services Inc. discriminates against no one. Teens find it a comfortable place to go, and it is also active in the LGBT neighborhoods. Free HIV testing is here, and almost everyone qualifies. Brace yourself for lots of people, this is a hectic center.
