The state and San Francisco County reported 218,728 chlamydia cases, 75,372 gonorrhea cases, and 13,719 early syphilis cases last year. These three STDs are the most commonly reported, with rates of gonorrhea and chlamydia taking the top places for rates of prevalence.
The rate of chlamydia in 2017 was 505.2 cases per 100,000 residents and gonorrhea reached 190.3 cases per 100,000. This was a 9% increase for chlamydia and a 16% increase for gonorrhea from previous year reports.
2017 data showed an increase of 45% since 2013. In 2017 over 300,000 cases of the three most common sexually transmitted diseases – syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia – were reported across the state.
