There has been an increase in HIV infections over the years in Anoka County, home to Blaine City. In 2015, a total number of 383 cases were recorded at a rate of 115.8 and in the year 2018 the number had increased to 444 cases at a rate of 134.2.
Chlamydia infections were at an all-time high from 2013 to the year 2017. In 2013, there were 18,724 Chlamydia cases at a rate of 353 per 100,000 persons and in 2017 the number had increased to 23,538 cases at a rate of 444 per 100,000 persons.
Gonorrhea cases, on the other hand, increased gradually from 2013 to 2017. From 3,872 cases in 2013, the number doubled to 6,519 cases at a rate of 123 percent in 2017.
An increase in Syphilis cases was also an observable trend in the reports. In 2013, there were 237 infections at a rate of 10.1 per 100,000 persons, and the number had increased to 934 cases at a rate of 17.6 per 100,000 persons in 2017.
To reduce the growing number of HIV/STD infections, the Anoka County Department of Health has adopted Integration as a strategy to improve the treatment of STDs in the County. This has been done by identifying and convening both primary care and public health partners to work together by integrating STD services in the county facilities.
