In Minnesota sex education is considered by many to be a growing issue. Some feel the way students are taught sex education has little or no positive impact on their sexual behavior. It is typical for a student to go through an abstinence-only program in Minnesota. In 2010 the state got money in federal funding for teaching abstinence-only to students.
The Obama administration eliminated this funding after 2010. Schools continue to teach abstinence only until marriage.

Chlamydia, the nation’s and state’s most widespread sexually transmitted disease, accounted for roughly 80 percent of all Minnesota STDs last year, with 21,238 cases, a 7 percent increase in just one year.
