Studies show that counties, such as Lake County and Cook County, are seeing a rise in STD rates, including gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis.
Illinois state health records show that Lake County, which encompasses most of Buffalo Grove, IL, saw an increase in the number of STD rates. Records show that chlamydia rates rose from 3,042 reported cases in 2016 to 3,357 reported cases in 2017, and gonorrhea rates jumped from 484 reported cases in 2016 to 586 reported cases in 2017.
Syphilis rates also increased from 81 reported cases (primary, secondary, and early latent stages) in 2016 to 89 reported cases in 2017.
Cook County, which includes portions of Buffalo Grove, IL also saw a surge in both chlamydia and gonorrhea rates. The number of reported chlamydia cases for the county (not including Chicago) rose by 850 cases, resulting in 12,130 reported cases for 2017 and the number of reported gonorrhea increased by 418 cases for a reported 3,190 cases in 2017.
Syphilis rates in Cook County (including Chicago), however, fell slightly from 581 reported cases in 2016 to 539 reported cases in 2017.
CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) records, there were 898 newly reported HIV cases in Cook County (including Chicago) and 29 reported HIV cases in Lake County.
